USTA League Tennis – Southeastern Michigan
USTA Leagues are part of a National adult recreational tennis program for men and women players. League play is offered in several skill levels from novice to advanced abilities. USTA Leagues offer singles and doubles team competition from local, district and sectional levels, culminating with a National Championship played in one of several locations.
USTA Leagues are open to all USTA members, ages 18 and over, whose playing skills meet the eligibility standards of any one of seven levels of play. These are defined by the National Tennis Rating Program and include: 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, and Open. Some doubles leagues offer competitions based on the combined ratings of partners and include: 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 and 10.0.
- Adult Leagues are offered in 4 categories: 18 & Over, 40 & Over, 55 & Over, and 65 & Over
- Mixed Leagues are offered in 3 categories: 18 & Over, 40 & Over, and 55 & Over
- Locally we also offer Combo Doubles,Team Singles, Tri-Level Doubles , and Adult 18-39.
- Players must be at least 18 years old for these leagues. (Team Singles do not progress to championships)
Wessen Indoor Tennis Club is a host for league competition. Teams are declared and organized by captains. If you are interested in captaining a team out of Wessen ITC, please contact us at info@wessenitc.com, or call 248-253-9300. If you would like us to help you find a team, please contact us. We can pass your information along to one of our captains that may be looking for additional players.
FALL LEAGUES
Fall Leagues – Teams are declared in August with matches played from September to December. Team formats are dictated by the District Office, and may vary from year-to-year.
- Combo Doubles 18 & Over: 5.5-8.5
- Team Singles: 2.5-4.5
- Mixed 55 & Over: 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0
- 18-39 Adult League: Details TBD
WINTER LEAGUES
Winter Leagues – Teams are declared in November/December with matches played from January to April. Team formats are dictated by the District Office, and may vary from year-to-year.
- Mixed 40 & Over: 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0
- Team Singles: 2.5-4.5
- 18-39 Singles – All Levels
SPRING/SUMMER LEAGUES
Summer Leagues – Teams are declared in March with matches played from May to August. Team formats are dictated by the District Office, and may vary from year-to-year.
- Adult 18 & Over: Men & Women’s 2.5-5.0+
- Adult 40 & Over: Men & Women’s 3.0-4.5+
- Adult 55 & Over: 6.0-9.0
- Adult 65 & Over: 6.0-8.0
- Mixed 18 & Over: 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0
- Tri-Level: 3.5, 4.0 & 4.5 (begins in August)
Adult League Descriptions
18 & Over: Five courts* (2 singles courts and 3 doubles courts) compete in matches once-per-week starting in May. Flight winners progress to District Championships in August.
*2.5 and 5.0+ play three courts (1 singles court & 2 doubles courts)
40 & Over: Five courts (2 singles courts & 3 doubles courts) compete in matches once-per-week starting in May. Flight winners progress to District Championships at the end of July.
55 & Over: Combined levels (doubles team player ratings added together.) Three courts (3 doubles courts) compete in matches once-per-week starting in May. Flight winners progress to District Championships in August/September.
65 & Over: Combined levels (doubles team player ratings added together.) Three courts (3 doubles courts) compete in matches once-per-week on Fridays during the day starting in May. Flight winners may advance to further play, which could include a State Championship and/or Sectional Championship. Any advancing play would occur in the fall.
Mixed Doubles Leagues
18 & Over: Combined levels (doubles team player ratings added together.) Three courts compete in matches once-a-week on Friday nights starting at the end of June. Flight winners progress to District Championships in August/September.
40 & Over: Combined levels (doubles team player ratings added together.) Three courts compete in matches once-a-week on Friday nights starting in May. Flight winners progress to District Championships in July.
Singles Leagues
18 & Over: The league consists of 3 courts of singles. Players must play at their rating in this league. Matches will be best of 2 sets with a Match Tiebreak (10-point) played if each player wins a set. Matches are limited to 90 minutes in length.
Tri-Level: League play begins in August. Separate men’s and women’s teams – 18 & Over. Division 1 [3.5, 4.0, 4.5] Division 2 [2.5, 3.0 & 3.5]. Division 1 has a Midwest Championship.
